The vocabulary of Finnish log construction has been highly varied in the various parts of the country and at different times. Many different names have been used side by side of the same corner joints.
Long corner or cross corner or straight corner:

Dog neck corner
Plume corner
Short corner or flush corner:
Nowadays, a short corner is primarily used in residential buildings because of its durability. Even when unprotected, a short corner has a longer life span than a long corner.
Dovetail corner
Tooth corner or lap corner or lock corner

Partition joint, which is made as a through joint in load-bearing partition walls.
