Swivel joints are mainly used for their appearance and structurality. They require a high degree of craftsmanship from their creators and, because of their high demands, a special location.
As a decorative hinge, it is, in its turn, very laborious and handcrafted and, currently, rarely used. An articulated joint is still a workable solution at the folding table and can be machined reasonably easily with a counter-cutting blade.
