Measuring the trunk
- Measurement on the stump
Measurement on the stump can be done with
A) 2 signs, in which case one measurement point is the diameter at chest height and another at an ocularly chosen height.
B) 3 signs, in which case the trunk is measured, in addition to the previous points, at a height of six meters.
In both cases the volume of the trunk can be seen straight from charts.
- The diameter of a felled tree
The diameter of a felled tree is measured in 1-3 meter parts, and lastly the volumes of the measured parts are totalled in order to find out the total volume of the trunk.
- Measuring with a multi-process machine
A multi-process machine measures the tree’s volume up to the cut-off point. Even separate wood grades can be itemized on the basis of the volume data.
